Our first time at Sick Kids Hospital

About a month ago we went to Sick Kids hospital for the first time, I never, ever thought I'd be taking either of my children there. I knew that they are a first class hospital but I was totally amazed. The atrium is so beautiful, and all the rooms/playrooms are great for children, they make it so kids are at ease. We had to be there for 8:30 to meet our neuro-surgeon, we took the go-train down.....that was an experience in itself...rush hour with a stroller...were going to drive next time. Our neuro-surgeon is named Dr. Kalkarni, he was a very nice man, he told us straight up that she'll need surgery for sure and even though it's cosmetic there is really no choice. He told us about the complication, he said that there is a membrane that is in between the skull and the brain and sometimes it can tear, if this happens they have to monitor it very closely, it can cause an infection which is menengitis (my biggest fear, besides being attacked by a bear). Another complication is loss of blood because of all the veins in their skulls, I'm allowed to donate blood as long as we match. Keri isn't allowed (he's from the UK...the mad cow scare). I cried when he told us about the complications...I wanted to ask so many questions but they all left my head when it was time for me to ask, I was to focused on what my baby will eventually be going through. We just got a letter from Sick Kids a week ago. We are going on June 1st to see the eye specialist at 8:45 (a lot of kids with cranio issues also have eye issues) then we meet out plastic surgeon Dr. Phillips at 10:45, and the CT scan at 11:30 which they will be sedating her for. Dr. Kalkarni told us that Dr. Phillips is the one that is going to book the surgery, I'm going to see if I can get a time in September because I go back to work on Nov 1st. We were told that they only do the surgery when the baby is between 10 months and 1 year. Metopic is pretty rare compared to some of the other cranio problems. On the sick kids website it says it happened 1 in 10,000 births 3:1 boys vs girl....WHY THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN TO OUR DAUGHTER??? Especially with those odds?? I think someone above has a special plan for me, a bump in the road.
